Noble.
The title Noble is taken from the National Registrations 1939.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A SINGLE WORD
Being noble can be seen as having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles. A noble person has a way of thinking, of having refined behaviours and a clear perception of the world around him or her. The world needs noble men and women. Your circle of influence needs noble men and women. Your family needs noble men and women. Humanity needs nobility.
WHAT LAW IS ON THE WALL?
This act established a National Register which began operating on 29 September 1939 (National Registration Day), a system of identity cards, and a requirement that they must be produced on demand or presented to a police station within 48 hours.
National Registration Act 1939
THE ENLISTMENT OF MARRIED MEN
LORD DEVONPORT
My Lords, I rise to ask His Majesty's Government whether they will grant a Return stating the number of married men enrolled in His Majesty's Army since the outbreak of war in August last, and the amount of the separation allowances paid to wives and other dependants of these men. Perhaps I may remind your Lordships that when the National Registration Bill was before the House on Second Reading reference was made by the noble Marquess who was in charge of that Bill to the large number of married men enlisted, and I took the opportunity during the debate of saying a few words in relation to the costliness of this system, or lack of system, and I suggested that it would be of value if the noble Marquess could see his way to grant a Return such as I now ask for so that we might have the figures in front of us. The noble Marquess was unable to give any definite pledge, but he was sympathetic and promised that he would inquire as to whether such a Return could be granted; and I gleaned from his observations that anything that he could possibly do would be done to ensure such a Return being presented.
THIS ACT CREATED A NATIONAL REGISTER
This act aimed to write out a National Registration Identity Card for every person but despite all the publicity and the best efforts of the authorities, a number of people failed to register on the appointed day. Some people had difficulty contacting the registrar to collect the completed forms, due to their working hours, or the inaccessibility of their property . Some people had lost their forms, or spoiled them, and others were missed out because they were on the move, or were deliberately avoiding registration, in the hope that they would also escape conscription in to the armed forces.
ID2020
ID2020 is a public-private consortium in service of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goal of providing legal identity for all people, including the world's most vulnerable populations.
ID2020 has published a ten-point mission statement, which includes: "We believe that individuals must have control over their own digital identities, including how personal data is collected, used, and shared.”
£4.5BN NATIONAL IDENTITY CARD SCHEME SCRAPPED
After abolishing Labour-era ID cards as one of her first decisions as home secretary in 2010, Theresa May said: “This bill is the first step of many that this government is taking to reduce the control of the state over decent, law-abiding people and hand power back to them.”
WHY ARE ID CARDS IMPORTANT IN 2021 AND BEYOND?
In a post corona world many governments have pushed for full biometric ID cards with Israel leading the way. There are countries that have made it mandatory to carry identity cards for eg. China, Germany and India. Most other countries issue identity cards but it is not compulsory to carry them. It is generally Commonwealth nations such as the U.K, Canada and Australia where official authorities do not issue any identity cards.
NOBLE PURSUITS AGAINST THE ARTS
In the film Dead Poets Society, John Keating (Robin Williams) uses poetry to embolden his students to new heights of self-expression.
HISTORY OF NOBILITY
“illustrious, distinguished, of high rank or birth," from Old French noble "of noble bearing or birth," from Latin nobilis "well-known, famous, renowned; excellent, superior, splendid; high-born, of superior birth," earlier *gnobilis, literally "knowable," from gnoscere "to come to know," from PIE root *gno- "to know."
WHAT IS A NOBLE GAS?
The noble gases, in order of their density, are helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon and radon. They are called noble gases because they are so majestic that, in general, they don't react with anything. They exhibit great stability and extremely low reaction rates.
INTERACTIVE ART THAT SPARKS DISCUSSION
This is an on going, interactive artwork to keep people engaged with the law and the discussion that comes from it.
BE NOBLE
Here we wanted to make a joke about Noble Gases, but we probably wouldn’t get much of a reaction.
BE HEARD AND GET INVOLVED
Many people have privacy and security concerns regards a mandatory national ID card and The National Registration Act teaches us that even during WWII a national ID card was ultimately rejected by the British public.
IDENTIFICATION CARDS
ID cards raise two fundamental issues for the average person, security and privacy. The identification card can significantly improve national security by providing reliable verification, as well as a common denominator through which agencies can cross-reference their information.
At the same time, a national identification card may also significantly invade the privacy of citizens, as well as visitors. If every individual's biometric features (picture, fingerprint, retinal scan, etc.), criminal records, financial records, health records, and travel patterns were recorded in one massive centralized database, our level of privacy would be significantly diminished. A centralized database would make it exceedingly easy for the government to monitor and potentially to control our activities, and it would likely violate privacy rights.
CHINA’S SOCIAL CREDIT SYSTEM
China has a government system with businesses given a unified social credit code and citizens an identity number, all linked to permanent records. Individuals have ID-linked codes. Reports talk about a blacklist; that's part of the official government social credit system, which means if you owe the government money, for example, you could lose certain rights. There's a difference between getting a low social credit score and being blacklisted by the government, such as for refusing to pay a fine.
The criteria that go into a social credit ranking depends on where you are. It can range from not paying fines when you're deemed fully able to, misbehaving on a train, standing up a taxi, or driving through a red light.
One city, Rongcheng, gives all residents 1,000 points to start. Authorities make deductions for bad behaviour like traffic violations, and add points for good behaviour such as donating to charity. One regulation specifically addresses stealing electricity. Of course, you'll have to get caught first or be reported by someone else. While facial recognition is infamously used to spot jaywalkers, in some Rongcheng it's not so automated, yet.
